OpenEXR (EXR) is a file format used by the visual effects industry for high dynamic range images. The film format has high color fidelity and a dynamic range suitable for use in motion picture production. Developed by Industrial Light and Magic, OpenEXR supports multiple lossless or lossy compression methods. An OpenEXR film can contain an arbitrary number of channels, and the format supports both 16‑bit and 32‑bit images.
